The Washington Huskies are increasing their efforts to recruit four-star wide receiver Vance Spafford, who is currently committed to the Georgia Bulldogs. Spafford has shown ongoing interest in other programs and has visited Washington multiple times. With a strong performance record and interest from other schools like USC and Miami, the competition for his commitment remains fierce. Analysts predict that Washington and other programs may pose a significant challenge to Georgia’s ability to retain Spafford’s pledge as he navigates his recruitment options.
Seattle, WA – The Washington Huskies have ramped up their recruitment efforts for four-star wide receiver Vance Spafford, even though he is currently committed to the Georgia Bulldogs. Spafford, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound athlete from Mission Viejo, California, has been committed to Georgia since November 11, 2024, but his ongoing interest in other programs has kept Washington hopeful for a possible commitment.
Ranked as the No. 74 recruit in the 2026 class by the 247Sports Composite rankings, Spafford is making waves in college football recruiting. Despite his commitment to Georgia, he has taken the initiative to visit several other schools, including the University of Washington. His recent trips to Washington included a significant visit during the major Junior Day weekend in early March, followed by a return for a spring practice visit in late April.
In his pursuit of elite talent, Washington’s wide receivers coach, Kevin Cummings, aims to bolster the Huskies’ roster. Notably, he has already signed five receivers for the 2025 recruiting class, which includes Chris Lawson, Raiden Vines-Bright, Marcus Harris, Deji Ajose, and Dezmen Roebuck. As of now, the Huskies hold just one commitment from a receiver in the 2026 class: three-star Terrance Saryon from Evergreen High School in Vancouver, Washington.
Spafford’s performance on the field speaks for itself, as he accumulated an impressive 140 receptions for 2,593 yards and 36 touchdowns across 27 games during his sophomore and junior seasons. His remarkable speed, demonstrated by a sub-11-second 100-meter dash, allows him to create separation from defenders and make plays at various levels of the game.
The competition for Spafford’s commitment is fierce. The USC Trojans are also actively pursuing him, hoping to leverage their proximity to California schools to entice him to flip. Spafford had an unofficial visit with USC on February 1 and has also drawn the interest of the Miami Hurricanes and UCLA Bruins. He has already scheduled official visits with Georgia on June 13 and Miami on June 20, although there are currently no official visits planned with USC.
With recent decommitments affecting other recruits, USC’s interest may lead them to intensify their efforts in securing Spafford’s commitment. Analysts, including Chad Simmons from On3, have mentioned that schools like Miami and Washington present significant threats to Georgia’s ability to retain Spafford’s pledge.
According to On3 Industry Rankings, Spafford is ranked as the No. 10 recruit in California and the No. 11 wide receiver nationally. His ability to win contested catches combined with quick breaks off the line of scrimmage sets him apart as a desirable prospect. Furthermore, his track achievements complement his football skills, enhancing his speed on the field.
Prior to his commitment to Georgia, Spafford had expressed a strong interest in the Bulldogs’ program, citing the competitive nature of the team and the opportunity to compete against top-tier athletes on a daily basis. Nevertheless, his recruitment remains open, as he continues to attract interest from multiple schools, indicating that he has not entirely shut down his recruitment process.
As Spafford navigates his options in the coming months, the recruitment landscape is sure to evolve, with the University of Washington and other schools eagerly watching for any signs of a potential change in his commitment status.
