Charlottesville, Virginia – The University of Virginia swimming and diving program has appointed Logan Redondo as the new Director of Professional Performance and Data Analysis, a role aimed at enhancing performance through focused data projects. This appointment, effective July 10, 2025, follows the elimination of the diving program earlier this year, which created a vacancy within the coaching staff.
Redondo will be responsible for data collection, data analysis, and refining swimming techniques such as stroke efficiency and skills development. This new position is part of a broader initiative to align athletics with academic resources throughout the university, emphasizing a data-driven approach to performance improvement.
Collaboration is central to Redondo’s role, as he will work closely with the existing coaching staff and Dr. Ken Ono, the STEM Advisor to the Provost and a mathematics professor. Together, they will focus on integrating analytics into the swimming program, ensuring that data insights inform training and performance strategies.
One notable project includes the development of a custom starting block designed to measure force production, which is being managed by the university’s engineering department. This innovative approach exemplifies the cross-disciplinary efforts aimed at improving athlete performance.
The coaching staff at UVA has indicated a strong need for dedicated support and resource management to effectively utilize existing data analysis reports. With Redondo’s extensive background in coaching and data application, he is expected to fill this gap and enhance the program’s focus on measurable performance improvements.
Redondo arrives at UVA with an impressive coaching record. He previously served as the head coach of the Mission Viejo Nadadores, where he led the senior group to multiple top-five national finishes. Under his leadership, swimmers achieved Olympic Trials qualifications and earned international medals, demonstrating his capability to develop elite talent.
Considered a rising star in elite coaching circles, Redondo has also contributed to the national scene as an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2024 Junior Pan Pacific Championships. His experience extends to shaping the careers of several Junior National Team members, including a standout recruit, Teagan O’Dell, who has garnered significant attention in competitive swimming.
A graduate of the University of Minnesota, Redondo holds a degree in kinesiology and has competed at a high level as a swimmer. He has trained under Tyler Fenwick, the current Senior Associate Head Coach at UVA, under Todd DeSorbo. This connection is expected to facilitate a seamless integration into the UVA swimming and diving program, leveraging both coaching acumen and academic rigor.
The commitment to data-driven performance enhancement positions UVA as a forward-thinking program in collegiate athletics. With Redondo at the helm of this new initiative, the university aims to build upon its tradition of excellence in swimming and diving, blending traditional training methods with cutting-edge research and analytics.
In summary, Logan Redondo’s appointment as the Director of Professional Performance and Data Analysis at the University of Virginia marks a significant step in the evolution of the swimming program. His expertise in coaching and data analysis is poised to foster a new era of athlete performance, making the integration of academic resources an integral part of the program’s future success.
