South Team Secures 3-0 Victory over North in Orange County Senior All-Star Softball Classic

The Orange County Coaches Senior All-Star Softball Classic took place at Deanna Manning Stadium on Wednesday night, showcasing the talents of high school senior softball players from the region. In the first game of the evening, the South team triumphed over the North with a decisive 3-0 victory.

The South team’s success can be attributed to exceptional pitching from four of their players, who collectively allowed only three hits throughout the game. Loula-Rea McNamara from Tesoro started on the mound, pitching two scoreless innings before being relieved by Payton Kennedy and Sawyer Denser, both from Santa Margarita, who pitched one inning each. Reece Uehara from Mission Viejo closed the game with two scoreless innings, ensuring the North team had no opportunity to score.

The South seized control of the game early, scoring two runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Kara King. King’s performance was part of a strategic effort, focusing on teamwork and making contact with the pitch. The South team added a third run in the fourth inning through a triple by Addison Day from Capistrano Valley, who later scored on a double steal.

Despite creating several scoring opportunities, the North team was unable to capitalize, facing strong defensive plays from the South, including an impressive catch by Day in the first inning. Coach John Fitzpatrick from Santa Margarita remarked on the ease of coaching the game under such conditions.

Event Highlights and Contributions

This event marks the 27th annual edition of the Orange County Senior All-Star Softball Classic, organized by coaches Tom Tice of Rosary and Dan Hay of Marina. The evening featured not only the match between the North and the South teams but also another game that resulted in a tie between the East and West teams at 7-7. The East team staged a remarkable comeback, tying the game in the final inning with a pivotal run scored by Sophia Rolon from Mater Dei.

The match between the East and West teams exhibited powerful offensive play with a total of 14 runs scored between both teams. The games were presented by Premier Girls Fastpitch, further emphasizing the talent present in the local softball community.

Ceremony and Community Recognition

In addition to showcasing the skills of young athletes, the event celebrated the accomplishments of those in the Orange County softball community. The Orange County Softball Hall of Fame inducted new members during a ceremony between the two games, honoring co-coach Dan Hay from Marina among the inductees.

Uehara, who played a crucial role in closing the first game, highlighted the importance of solid defense, showcasing the collaborative effort of the South team.
