The Saddleback High School football team achieved a historic win against Morningside High School, ending their 19-game losing streak with a decisive 44-0 victory. Coach Rob Thompson’s leadership and standout performances from players like Fabian Bravo and Andre Scott fueled the team’s success during their first home game of the season. With a renewed focus and ambitious goals for the playoffs, the Roadrunners look forward to building on this momentum in their upcoming matches.
Saddleback, California – The Saddleback High School football team celebrated a significant milestone on Friday night by defeating the Morningside High School team from Inglewood with a commanding score of 44-0. This victory marked the end of Saddleback’s 19-game losing streak that had stretched across multiple seasons.
The match took place during Saddleback’s first home game of the season, where the stands were filled with enthusiastic fans supporting their team. Under the leadership of head coach Rob Thompson, who is in his second tenure with the Roadrunners, the team displayed a strong performance right from the start.
The Roadrunners established dominance early in the game, jumping to a 23-0 lead at halftime. The first points came from a safety, executed by Christopher Romero, who tackled the Morningside quarterback in the end zone. Junior running back Fabian Bravo was a standout player, rushing for 97 yards on 10 carries and scoring one touchdown. Junior quarterback Andre Scott also contributed significantly, scoring two rushing touchdowns and completing a 30-yard touchdown pass to tight end Joseph Torres, who is one of the team’s key returners.
Scott’s passing performance included 60 yards completed on three passing attempts. The Roadrunners’ defense was relentless, limiting Morningside’s offensive efforts to just 10 yards passing throughout the match. The game was so one-sided that a running clock was utilized during parts of the second half due to the large score differential.
This victory comes as a result of a new coaching staff that was brought in to revamp the team’s outlook. The head coach, Thompson, previously led the Roadrunners from 2011 to 2016, and he has emphasized a culture of hard work and a positive mindset among the players for the current season. The Roadrunners had finished the prior season without a win, going 0-10, which made the current victory even more impactful.
Looking forward, the team has set ambitious goals for the season, aiming to reach the playoffs. They will compete in the newly formed Zeta League alongside teams such as Godinez, Savanna, Magnolia, and Century. Historically, Saddleback had a 6-5 record in 2015, which was the last time the school made it to the CIF playoffs, and there are hopes that the current squad can replicate that success.
The success of the Roadrunners this season appears to be supported by several key players. Among them, linebacker Joseph Torres and running backs Fabian Bravo, Favian Soria, and newcomer Chris Romero have shown promising potential. The offensive line, mostly composed of returning players, is expected to play a crucial role in the team’s success as the season progresses.
As the Roadrunners look ahead to their upcoming games, there is a strong sense of optimism surrounding the program.
