Fahey, recognized for his accuracy and impressive stats, chose Ohio State over competitors like Stanford and Indiana. As the 20th commitment in the class, he aims to continue the legacy of successful Southern California quarterbacks at Ohio State.

Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio State Buckeyes football team has secured a commitment from four-star quarterback Luke Fahey from Mission Viejo, California, marking a significant milestone for the team’s 2026 recruiting class. Fahey announced his commitment to Ohio State on Thursday, concluding a focused search for a quarterback led by head coach Ryan Day and quarterbacks coach Billy Fessler.

Fahey’s journey to this commitment was highlighted by an official visit to Ohio State on June 20, during which he received an official scholarship offer from the team. Although he had not been offered prior to this visit, the coaching staff quickly recognized Fahey’s potential, propelling Ohio State into the lead of his recruitment process, which culminated in less than two weeks. In choosing Ohio State, Fahey opted for the Buckeyes over other finalists, including Stanford and Indiana.

The Buckeyes had initially set their sights on several elite quarterbacks for the 2026 class, including five-star prospects Jared Curtis, Faizon Brandon, Dia Bell, and Ryder Lyons. However, after falling out of recruitment for those players, the coaching staff shifted their focus to Fahey, whom they deemed an ideal fit for their offensive system. His commitment makes him the 20th overall commitment in Ohio State’s 2026 class.

As Ohio State’s sole quarterback recruit who visited officially during the summer, Fahey’s recruitment journey has gained traction due to his impressive performance metrics. He earned the title of Alpha Dog from 247Sports following a standout showing at the South County Classic 7-on-7 tournament. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Fahey is positioned as the No. 355 overall prospect and the No. 23 quarterback in his class.

His performance on the field has been noteworthy. During his junior season, he completed about 76% of passes, resulting in 1,638 yards with 17 touchdowns and zero interceptions. He also showcased his dual-threat athleticism by rushing for 183 yards and three touchdowns. In his sophomore year, he managed 2,184 passing yards and 26 touchdowns while sharing duties at quarterback with another three-star player. As he prepares for the upcoming season, Fahey is set to take on the role of full-time starter at Mission Viejo High School.

Despite being viewed as smaller than the typical Big Ten quarterback at 6-foot-1 and weighing 185 pounds, Fahey is recognized for his accuracy, making him one of the most coveted quarterbacks in his recruiting class. His commitment adds to a legacy of Southern California quarterbacks that have joined Ohio State under Ryan Day. Previous quarterbacks from the region include C.J. Stroud, Julian Sayin, and Brady Edmunds, illustrating a growing trend in attracting talent from California.

Looking ahead, Fahey’s journey at Ohio State will inevitably put him in competition with fellow quarterbacks for the starting role in the future. If current quarterback Julian Sayin secures and maintains his starting position for the next two years, Fahey can expect to compete with teammates Tavien St. Clair and Brady Edmunds following Sayin’s eventual departure. As Fahey steps onto the field to lead his high school team this senior season, anticipation builds for what he will bring to the Buckeyes when he arrives in Columbus.
