Mission Viejo Launches Free Shuttle Service to Enhance Community Transit Options

The city of Mission Viejo has introduced a new shuttle service, known as the Mission Viejo Shuttle (MV Shuttle), which commenced operations on August 19, 2025. This initiative is part of a larger citywide program aimed at improving transportation accessibility for the Mission Viejo community. The service, which will remain free for the first 90 days, aims to encourage residents to utilize the shuttle for their commuting needs.

The MV Shuttle operates on a defined route that connects key locations in the community, such as the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center and the Laguna Niguel/Mission Viejo Metrolink train station. This connection is particularly beneficial as Mission Viejo stands out as one of the few cities in Orange County offering a dedicated transit shuttle for its residents.

Key streets utilized by the MV Shuttle include La Paz Road, Felipe Road, Marguerite Parkway, Medical Center Road, and Crown Valley Parkway. The shuttle makes stops at several prominent destinations, including:

  • Mission Hospital
  • The Shops at Mission Viejo
  • Saddleback College
  • Capistrano Valley High School (during start and dismissal times)

This shuttle service caters to a diverse user base, including business professionals, students, seniors, and volunteers. Additionally, there is a specialized roundtrip service for Mission Viejo High School, referred to as the Tripper Route, which follows a specific path during school start and dismissal times before returning to the shuttle’s regular route.

The MV Shuttle operates Monday through Friday from approximately 6:30 am to 7:00 pm, excluding holidays, with services running until June 5. Two shuttles are in operation, scheduled to run roughly every 45 minutes, providing convenient transportation for those in the area. The smaller shuttles are powered by compressed natural gas (CNG), contributing to lower emissions compared to traditional vehicles and enhancing sustainability in public transport.

Identifying shuttle stops is made easy for residents, as they are marked with colorful signage throughout the route. Additional information regarding schedules and stop locations can be found on the City of Mission Viejo’s website and through the Ride Systems app, which is available for download on both Google Play and the Apple App Store.

The launch of the MV Shuttle is a collaborative effort between the City of Mission Viejo and the Orange County Transportation Authority as part of its Project V Community-Based Transit grant program. This partnership aims to promote the use of Metrolink while ensuring that key locations within Mission Viejo are accessible to all residents. Public Works Director Mark Chagnon highlighted the dual objectives of the shuttle initiative: enhancing local transit options and facilitating greater access to public transportation.

The introduction of this shuttle service marks a significant step forward in enhancing community transit in Mission Viejo, providing residents with a reliable, eco-friendly option for navigating their city.
