Mission Viejo, California is preparing for the opening of Costco’s largest stand-alone gas station, set to launch in the spring of 2026. This facility will feature 40 fuel pumps, significantly enhancing Costco’s fuel service capabilities in the region. The gas station will be constructed on the site of the former Bed Bath & Beyond store, located approximately two miles away from an existing Costco warehouse that also offers fuel services.

The Mission Viejo Planning and Transportation Commission approved the project in March 2025. Construction is anticipated to start in the fall of 2025. This new gas station will serve as a convenient option for Costco members, streamlining access to fuel while alleviating congestion at neighboring gas stations.

Operational Expectations

Once operational, the gas station is projected to accommodate up to 9,500 vehicles each day between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m., which reflects Costco’s strategy to enhance service efficiency. To support this level of service, the facility is expected to receive up to nine deliveries from fuel trucks daily.

Notably, the gas station will not include an attached convenience store, meaning customers will not be able to purchase food or drinks on-site. This focus on fuel sales aligns with Costco’s operational model, which prioritizes bulk sales and low pricing for its members.

Impact on Costco’s Revenue

The expansion into stand-alone gas stations comes as Costco has seen increased sales linked to extended gas station hours at other locations. Gasoline sales accounted for nearly 12.5% of Costco’s total revenue last year, translating to approximately $30 billion. CEO Ron Vachris acknowledged that lengthening gas station hours has improved member throughput and overall gasoline sales across the board.

As with Costco’s other gas stations, this facility will be exclusively available to members who pay an annual membership fee of $65 to $130.
