Mission Viejo, California – Mansur Mohammed Abahusayn, a respected intellectual and innovator, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, at the age of 82. His remarkable contributions to education, agriculture, and technology will be remembered by many. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, and three sons, Hisham, Mishal, and Maajed, along with their families.
Mansur was born on December 23, 1942, in Ushaiger, Saudi Arabia. He was the son of Mohammed Abahusayn and Nora Al-Misned and the eldest of fourteen siblings, which included thirteen brothers and sisters. His journey into the world of education and technology began at an early age, as he began working for Saudi ARAMCO at just 13 years old. This early experience instilled in him a strong work ethic and a desire for academic advancement.
As a pioneering figure in his family, Mansur was the first to attend high school abroad, a significant milestone he achieved by studying in Lebanon. He later obtained a Bachelor’s degree from the American University of Beirut. His pursuit of knowledge continued with a Master’s degree from the University of Arizona followed by a prestigious Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside.
Mansur’s professional career began in education, where he served as a teaching professor in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He then transitioned into research, becoming a research fellow at the University of California, Irvine. Demonstrating leadership, he later served as the Deputy Minister of Agriculture in Saudi Arabia, where he made significant contributions to the country’s agricultural landscape.
In the private sector, Mansur focused on advancing the water industry and promoting technology transfer, notably introducing the center pivot irrigation system to Saudi Arabia. Throughout his career, he demonstrated an innovative spirit, securing twelve patents that reflect his commitment to improving agricultural practices and enhancing water management in the region.
Outside of his professional achievements, Mansur was cherished for his warm personality and was known for his love of games such as bridge and backgammon, which he enjoyed playing with friends and family. His enthusiasm for these games brought joy to those around him.
He leaves behind a legacy not only in his immediate family but also in his contributions to education and technology. Mansur is remembered for his belief in the power of education as a foundation for change.
