El Camino College Warriors Triumph Over Saddleback College Bobcats in 3C2A Regional Playoffs

El Camino, CA – The El Camino College Warriors emerged victorious against the Saddleback College Bobcats with a score of 11-6 in the first game of the 3C2A Regional Playoffs on Friday, May 2, at Warrior Field. The game showcased an intense atmosphere with multiple players being hit by pitches, particularly for the Warriors, who saw nine of their players struck between the second and eighth innings.

Center fielder Jack Nammack faced the most adversity, getting hit three times throughout the game, while second baseman Aden Laureano was hit twice. Notably, the Bobcats’ catcher, Rodrigo Barajas, sustained a substantial injury after being hit in the groin during the bottom of the fifth inning. The game was paused for several minutes as he received assistance and was helped off the field, drawing warm applause from the crowd in response to his visible discomfort.

The Warriors initially scored in the second inning, with designated hitter Dylan Mares and Laureano both contributing runs. After entering the fourth inning with a narrow lead, the Warriors quickly responded to a fourth-inning score by the Bobcats, adding insurance with additional runs from Laureano and an impressive three RBIs from right fielder Matt Hammond.

Warriors coach Grant Palmer expressed pride in his team’s resilience and ability to maintain their dominance throughout the game. The Bobcats, who faced challenges in their pitching efforts, cycled through four different pitchers in an attempt to control the game. Coach Sommer McCartney acknowledged that improvements were needed in pitching to avoid elimination in the playoffs.

The game length was marked by Warriors’ pitcher Cameron O’Neil’s performance, who faced 33 batters while throwing 110 pitches, achieving 66 strikes before being relieved in the eighth inning. O’Neil’s strong gameplay contributed significantly to the team’s early lead and ultimately their win.

Next Steps in the Playoffs

With this victory, the Warriors have extended their winning streak to eight games, having last suffered defeat on April 8 against Pasadena City College. Looking forward, the Warriors and Bobcats are set to meet again for Game 2 of the series on Saturday, May 3, at 11 a.m. Should a third game be necessary, it will commence at 2 p.m.

In summation, the Warriors’ teamwork and tenacity played a crucial role in their playoff victory against the Bobcats, especially given the challenges posed by hit-by-pitch incidents and the heightened stakes of postseason baseball.
