South Team Wins Orange County Softball All-Star Classic

IRVINE, CA

The Orange County Softball Coaches Senior All-Star Classic showcased tremendous talent and skill at Deanna Manning Stadium on Wednesday, as the South team triumphed over the North team with a decisive 3-0 victory in a six-inning game. This defensive powerhouse performance was underpinned by an impressive pitching staff, ensuring the North team was held scoreless throughout the matchup.

The South’s pitching rotation, comprising Loula-Rae McNamara from Tesoro, Payton Kennedy and Sawyer Denser, both from Santa Margarita, and Reece Uehara from Mission Viejo, combined for a stellar three-hitter and recorded five strikeouts. Uehara, who took the mound for the last two innings, played a crucial role in managing high-pressure situations, including a tense sixth inning that ended with a significant double play, ultimately securing the win.

The doubleheader event consisted of another game, which ended in a 7-7 tie between the East and West teams. In this feature event, standout performances included Addison Day, center fielder for Capistrano Valley and a commitment to Wagner, who not only pulled off an impressive running catch to thwart a potential run in the first inning but also logged a triple in the fourth inning. She notably executed a daring steal of home on a double steal that showcased her agility and speed.

Key Performances During the Game

Kara King from Mission Viejo, set to join Division II Pace College in New York, contributed significantly to the South’s win with a crucial two-run single that generated the lead for her team. The defense of the South team was equally noteworthy, featuring remarkable plays such as a diving catch by Sofia Zavarella of Santa Margarita and Micayla Turi’s strategic throw that caught a runner at second base. Loreale Blake, also of Santa Margarita, effectively tagged out a North player during a botched double steal attempt.

The North team showcased resilience and skill, led by Kai Minor from Orange Lutheran, who made a series of significant defensive plays, including a leaping catch and a sliding grab, along with two base steals during the game.

The games were part of a larger event sponsored by Premier Girls Fastpitch (PGF). In addition to the action on the field, the Orange County softball Hall of Fame ceremony took place, honoring 11 inductees, including past standout players like Brittany Lastrapes from Laguna Hills and Lauren Young from Canyon.
