Born on February 23, 1937, in Pasadena, California, Mary Ann was the daughter of Florence and Clayton Russ. She grew up in Newport Beach, where she cultivated her love for horse races and gardening. After graduating from Newport Harbor Union High School in 1954, she pursued a degree in education, which laid the foundation for her career teaching junior high school for over two decades in the Saddleback Valley School District, retiring in 2000.
Mary Ann married Keith Olsen in 1957, and together they raised two children, Jeff and Linda, in Mission Viejo, California. Throughout her life, she balanced her roles as a devoted mother and an inspiring teacher, always emphasizing the importance of education and a strong Christian faith. Mary Ann was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of the Master in Mission Viejo, engaging in various church activities that highlighted her commitment to her beliefs.
In 2005, seeking new experiences and to be closer to family, Mary Ann relocated to Eagle Point, Oregon. There, she continued her service to the community as a member of the Eagle Point school board, inspired by her lifelong passion for children and learning. She also became an integral part of the Community Bible Church in nearby Central Point, participating in Bible studies, playing bridge, and enjoying RV travel with family and friends.
Throughout her lifetime, Mary Ann developed a wide array of interests that included singing, gardening, and spending quality time with her family and beloved dogs, who provided her with companionship and joy. She traveled extensively, having visited numerous locations around the United States, Australia, and Europe, which allowed her to create cherished memories with loved ones.
