Community members celebrating at the new Bluebird Branch of the Boys & Girls Club

News Summary

The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach celebrated the grand reopening of its Bluebird Branch, highlighting renovations that enhance facilities for local youth. A community gathering featured guided tours and commemorated significant contributions from local leaders, fostering a supportive environment for youth development. CEO Pam Estes emphasized the positive impact of these upgrades on future generations.

Laguna Beach, CA – The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach (BGCLB) marked a significant milestone in community development with the grand reopening of its Bluebird Branch on May 27. A ceremonious ribbon-cutting event was held to celebrate the completion of the renovation, aimed at enhancing the club’s ability to provide high-quality programming in a safe and modern environment for its youth members.

The event attracted a large crowd, including families, community members, donors, and supporters of the organization. Guests were invited to take guided tours of the newly upgraded facility, which showcases improved learning zones, a vibrant creative space, and an array of new amenities designed to better serve the club’s youth.

The festive atmosphere was enhanced by the grilling of hot dogs for attendees, creating a warm welcoming environment for those who came to celebrate the occasion. The ceremony was particularly poignant as it honored the Bluebird Beautification Project (2023-2025), paying tribute to two prominent local figures who passed away: Harry Bithell, a REALTOR® and dedicated Rotarian, and Wayne Peterson, a philanthropist and the founder of the Laguna Beach Community Foundation (LBCF).

Harry Bithell was instrumental in facilitating the relocation of the Bluebird Branch building to its current location in the park. Wayne Peterson’s legacy is marked by his significant contributions to the community through the LBCF, which has made numerous investments to improve the lives of Laguna Beach residents.

The LBCF also played a crucial role in the renovation project by making the initial matching pledge that set the Bluebird Capital Campaign into motion, paving the way for the necessary funding. A variety of supporters contributed to the project, including companies such as DaVita, AGI, and Design with Purpose, along with individual donors and local organizations.

Pam Estes, the CEO of BGCLB, expressed appreciation for the community’s support and emphasized the positive impact these renovations will have on current and future generations of families. With over 4,000 youth served daily across Laguna Beach, Lake Forest, Aliso Viejo, and Mission Viejo, BGCLB remains committed to its mission of empowering young individuals, particularly those in need, through programs that focus on social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development.

The renovation of the Bluebird Branch not only enhances the location but also reflects the overall commitment of BGCLB to adapt to the evolving needs of the community. The modernized facility is expected to foster a more conducive learning environment, providing youth with the resources and opportunities necessary to thrive.

As BGCLB continues its mission, support from local businesses and individuals plays a crucial role in sustaining and expanding their programs. Community members interested in learning more or wishing to offer support can find additional information through the BGCLB website or contact their office directly.

This renovation stands as a testament to the collaboration and dedication within the Laguna Beach community to uplift and empower its youth for a brighter future.
