Sign indicating restaurant is closed due to health inspections

News Summary

Two restaurants in Orange County, Chicama Peruvian and Sincerely Syria, received temporary closure orders following health inspections revealing serious violations. Findings included rodent droppings at Chicama and live cockroaches at Sincerely Syria, alongside other hygiene issues. With a tight deadline to address these concerns, both establishments face a significant challenge to reopen. Orange County residents are encouraged to explore alternative dining options while awaiting improvements.

Orange County Restaurants Hit with Temporary Closure Orders

In a recent sweep by health inspectors, two restaurants in Orange County found themselves in hot water and were ordered to close their doors temporarily. That’s right, folks! From March 20 to March 27, a total of eight dining spots faced the music. But it was the inspection on March 26 that spelled trouble for Chicama Peruvian Restaurant located on Cerritos Ave and Sincerely Syria on S Magnolia Ave.

Chicama Peruvian Restaurant: A Taste of Peru on Hold

Chicama Peruvian Restaurant is known for serving up delicacies like empanadas, micheladas, alfajores, and the tasty tamal peruano. However, during the latest inspection by the Orange County Health Care Agency, things took a turn. The restaurant faced some pretty glaring issues, to say the least. Among the most concerning findings were the presence of rodent droppings in the food prep area, which is definitely not what you want to find in a place where you are ordering food!

Adding to the list of violations were empty soap dispensers found in both the restrooms and the kitchen. Talk about a hygiene nightmare! If that wasn’t enough, the restaurant also struggled with maintaining proper hot and cold holding temperatures for its food items. But wait, there’s more! They were also lacking consumer advisory signs for undercooked or raw foods on the menu, which is crucial for diners who want to be informed.

The health officials have already released the full inspection report for Chicama, and it’s safe to say they have some work to do before reopening. The restaurant owners will have 15 days to request a hearing regarding these violations. If they fail to do so, it will be interpreted as giving up their right to a hearing. Ouch!

Sincerely Syria: A Wrap Disrupted

Over at Sincerely Syria, famous for their delicious shawarma, beef, and chicken wraps, it seems that unsavory surprises were lurking as well. This beloved eatery was also ordered to close for some alarming reasons. Inspectors found multiple live cockroaches hanging out in the 3-compartment sink! That’s a major red flag indicating a serious vermin infestation.

But the issues didn’t stop there. Sincerely Syria also had gaps around the pipes in the sink, which is never a good sign in terms of cleanliness. If that sounds bad, it gets worse! The restaurant was cited for failing to keep the proper hot water temperatures, making it a tough combination to ensure effective cleaning practices.

With both restaurants hitting the brakes on their operations due to these inspections, Orange County residents will have to find alternative dining options for now. It’s a tough pill to swallow, especially for fans of Peruvian and Syrian cuisine.

The Path Forward

Going forward, both restaurants have a tight deadline. After receiving notice of their violations, they have the choice to plead their case in a hearing. Failure to act within the specified timeframe means they essentially forfeit their chance to contest the findings—a position no restaurant wants to be in.

As we wait to see how these establishments proceed, it’s a good reminder for all of us to pay attention to hygiene standards when dining out. Let’s support our local eateries and hope they bounce back stronger and more sanitary than ever!

So, in the meantime, Orange County diners might want to explore other culinary delights while these two get things sorted! Here’s to cleaner kitchens and delicious meals ahead!
